October 8-10, 2010, AIGA Design Educators Conference, “New Contexts / New Practices,” was held in Raleigh, North Carolina at NC State University.
“New Contexts / New Practices” generated and published ideas about how design education will address the defining trends of contemporary practice and culture. This authoring conference will build consensus and action plans for where we should be heading if graphic design is to remain relevant in the 21st century and if we are to achieve the competencies outlined in AIGA Defining the Designer of 2015. For more information visit the conference site here.
A pre-conference workshop on “Designing Flexible Curricula” was held on the afternoon of October 8, immediately before the opening of the conference. The workshop addressed the design of curricular structures that respond to shifting conditions for the field; structures that are agile and that consider pedagogical approaches within rapidly changing social, economic, and technological imperatives.
