AIGA Design Educators Conference 2010, New Contexts/New Practices.

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Adobe, AIGA Design Educators Community develops national conferences every two years that explore educational issues ranging from design history, theory, and pedagogy to globalization, sustainability, and emerging practices. The DEC Steering Committee is pleased to announce two design educator conferences planned for 2012 and 2013. Geographics: Design, Education, and the Transnational Terrain will be held in Honolulu, Hawaii in December 2012 and will focus on the increasingly transnational context of design practice and education, and the culturally complex projects and research that are being created as programs, professors, students and curricula move between the US and other nations. BLUNT: Explicit and Graphic Design Criticism Now, will take place in Norfolk, Virginia in spring 2013 and will address the largely unwritten and under-championed body of critical literature in graphic design, proposing that we foster an awareness of the conceptual tools and vehicles of critical practice by writing back at graphic design.
