We are very pleased to announce the launch of the AIGA Design Teaching Resource.
This DEC initiative, created and designed by Annabelle Gould (Associate Professor, University of Washington), is a peer-populated online platform where design educators can share assignments, outcomes, teaching materials and project reflections. The DEC encourages all design educators to contribute case studies to this important resource.
We hope this tool will:
—Build a strong, supportive community where educators can share teaching methods
—Provide inspiration + actionable information for educators, both new and experienced
—Foster connections + collaborations between educators / programs
—Support educators teaching in new areas of the discipline
—Identify experts teaching in specific areas
—Encourage critical reflection and discussion surrounding design education issues
The DTR is organized into three main sections:
Projects — browse by Category (associated with assignment outcomes) or Tags (related to assignment subject matter, design principles and process).
Educators — see a list of educators who have contributed to the DTR. You can view by name or by institution. From this page you can link to each educator’s profile page or view projects from specific institutions.
Resources — find references for creating a syllabus, running critiques, assessment models, reading lists and more. We have a lot more content to add to this section and all design educators are encouraged to submit their teaching references for consideration. You can do this by sending an email to info@teachingresource.aiga.org

What you can do now:
Have a look around, and sign up! This initial version of the Design Teaching Resource is open to anyone involved in design education. It’s likely that access to this tool will require AIGA membership at some point in the future. We will keep you updated on when this change will occur.
Once you register with the Design Teaching Resource you can create a profile page containing a brief biography, teaching interests (based on the Project Categories) and a link to your institution. Optional information includes your LinkedIn url and a headshot.
You can also begin posting projects. Most of the information required will come from your project briefs. You can post up to five images per project (process or final) as jpgs, pngs or gif files. No video at this point, sorry. “Project Reflections” is where you can write about what went well and what you might do differently the next time around. Please note: when you create a project you will need to choose your institution. If you do not see your institution in the list, please email info@teachingresource.aiga.org to have it added.
Your participation is essential for building a strong, engaged and better connected community for design educators. We hope you will visit often and share your own projects!
As an added incentive, the first 50 people who post a project will be entered into a drawing for one of five complimentary registrations for the 2020 National Conference in Pittsburgh next year.
