Design Educators: Get Your Projects Ready!

Launching in the summer of 2018, the Design Teaching Resource is a peer-populated platform for educators to share assignments, outcomes, teaching materials and project reflections. This resource is intended to:

—Build a community by enabling educators to share teaching methods
—Provide inspiration + actionable information to other educators
—Foster connections + collaborations between educators / programs
—Support educators teaching in new areas of the discipline
—Identify experts teaching in specific areas
—Encourage critical reflection and discussion

This tool will benefit entry level educators, seasoned educators looking for inspiration, professionals/designers who teach part-time, educators in smaller programs and anyone teaching a new course.

This online resource welcomes design projects covering all topics. We encourage educators to submit assignments from any design class, covering all subject matter. There will be project categories to choose from (Branding, Graphic Design, Information, Environmental, Web etc) and project tags (sophomore, print, social good, diversity etc) to associate with each assignment. Users can also create additional tags as needed.

Initiated by the DEC in 2013, the tool is being developed now with the support of an AIGA Innovate Grant. Annabelle Gould, DEC member and Associate Professor at the University of Washington, is leading the project. The Dubberly Design Office will build out Version One of the resource.

Stay tuned for more updates and a call for assignment submissions. We will need everyone’s participation to make this a viable, sustainable and rich resource for the design education community!
