The mission of Design Incubation is to facilitate the development and support of research in the field of Communication Design. The organization works with academics and practitioners to create scholarly discourse and publications focused on creative projects, critical analysis, historical perspectives, technological advances and other topics relevant to design studies.

The professionals and academics involved have expertise in one or more of the following areas: graphic design, information design, branding, marketing, advertising, typography, web, interaction, film and video, photography, animation, illustration, game design.

Design Incubation holds regular colloquia, where peer reviewed work is presented on scholarly research such as unique and ground-breaking creative work, analysis on trends and theories of design, innovative methods of pedagogy, and other communication design related concepts.

Beginning in January 2015, Design Incubation will be offering Fellowships to encourage and facilitate scholarly pursuits within the field. The workshops will result in competencies needed for conference presentations, abstract development, article writing and publishing, book authorship, grant writing and project execution.
