AIGA seeks active, dedicated educators and practitioners to provide service and leadership on its Design Educators Community Steering Committee (DEC). Nominations are now being accepted for three-year positions starting August 1, 2018. The committee seeks five new members for this term.
Minimum qualification for consideration to AIGA’s Design Educators Steering Committee is experience teaching visual communication or graphic design, or a related field of study, at the college or university level. All applicants must be current AIGA members. Candidates with experience in local chapter board leadership or committee service are encouraged to apply. Information about the committee, its purpose, and current initiatives and events can be found at the AIGA Design Educators website at educators.aiga.org.
Members are expected to actively participate in ongoing DEC projects, further existing initiatives, or begin new initiatives that will benefit the Design Educators Community. The DEC is currently looking for educators who are interested in assisting with the development and maintenance of conference proceedings, who understand academic publishing and the scholarly editing process, or are interested in supporting other DEC initiatives.
Committee members must take part in a monthly conference call and meet annually for a retreat. This retreat typically takes place during the AIGA national design conference (April 2019 in Pasadena, CA).
The DEC is committed to selecting members who will represent a range of diversity, geographic locations, institutions and programs and actively contribute to its mission.
Applications are due May 31, 2019 and notification of results will be sent in July.
